Daidzein is the aglucon of Daidzin (sc-202123; daidzein 7-glucoside), isolated from soybean meal (Soja hispada), from the mold Micromonospora halophytica, and from red clover. Daidzein is an inactive analog of Genistein (sc-3515), a tyrosine kinase (Trk) inhibitor, that allows it to act as a negative control for such experiments. It is a phytoestrogen which may play a role in hormone-produced cancers. In Swiss 3T3 cells the compound has been shown to induce cell cycle arrest at G1. The compound has also been observed to inhibit fast Na+ channels and to act as an estrogen receptor agonist.
